Country Session 9: Norway's Pioneering Journey in Carbon Capture and Storage
Friday, 1 March
Conference Hall 2, Level 3
Country Session
Norway’s investment in CO2 capture, transport and storage includes a host of activities, from research and development to full-scale demonstration and international advancement of CCS.
Norway’s CCS history dates back to 1986 when research on CCS started at SINTEF, one of the main research institutes in Norway. Since then, several significant CCS milestones have been reached including; Sleipner and Snøhvit CCS projects, CO2 Technology Centre Mongstad (TCM) and finally, the governments FID decision on Northern Lights CCS hub and Longship projects in 2021.
It is fair to say that Norway has been involved in CCS longer than any other nation and on the back of these activities, including the research based innovation focus, have developed a world leading supply/value chain capable of supporting projects globally.
This session will give an overview of the CCS history in Norway, current status of the Northern Lights and Longship projects and a detailed description of some of the supply chain involved in Northern Lights and other CCS projects in Norway including transport, storage and monitoring.
